Adios 2010 and my last project of the year.

Framed book pages and our last name.
(I couldn't think of a good title)
It all started out when me and the kiddos were out on a walk and I saw this book on top of a trash can... From trash to my wall. This project was fast and easy

Step 1 find book in the trash!

Step 2 take an old frame that was hanging on the wall for 6 months without anything in it.

Step 3 rip pages out of said book and crumble them up and use double sided tape to adhere to the cardboard backing.
Step 4 I forgot to take a picture of me painting but I printed out our last name and then put it under the glass and then used black acrylic paint to paint over it. Then a took a little piece of denim and stamped the year we got married on to it.
(This is my tribute to Freckled Laundry one of my bloggy obsessions.)
Here it is all assembled.
And here it is all hung up.
My hubby had a great idea after it was all finished.
"Why don't you use the sheet music from the song we danced to at our wedding?"
How sweet is that, and what a great idea!
Adios 2010- I sure had fun this year I can't wait to see what 2011 brings.

Birthday Invitations

Remember A few months ago I blogged about the girls build-a-bear birthday?
I was going to be prepared this year.
Well, it is two weeks away and I just finished the invitation.

Here they are in their beautiful simplicity.
Why do I make the party invites you ask.
The pretty answer would be because I want the invitee to know that this party is something that I have taken time to think about and prepare for.
The simple answer is because I always do things last minute.
Both are true.

I am linking up to some fabulous parties.

Advent Calendar

Advent- Latin adventus is the translation of the Greek word parousia, commonly used in reference to the Second Coming of ChristChristians believe that the season of Advent serves a reminder both of the original waiting that was done by the Hebrews for the birth of their Messiah as well as the waiting of Christians for Christ's return. In recent times the commonest observance of Advent outside church circles has been the keeping of an advent calendar or advent candle, with one door being opened in the calendar, or one section of the candle being burned, on each day in December leading up to Christmas Eve.

We use both types of advent calendars at our house.
We read a passage from the Bible every night that tells the Christmas story.

We try to remember the real reason we are celebrating and that it is not just about gifts.

That being said we also have a fun advent calendar that incorporates family traditions and Christmas symbolism.

Blog hop and a giveaway.

Are you more of a black friday shopper
or a cyber monday gal?...

This was my first year venturing out to walmart to grab some gifts. Let me tell you it was crazy! I got a lot of great stuff even though I had to wad through crowds of people. The girls really wanted a fur real friend and zuzu pets. My kiddos love animals and because I won't be buying anything real for quite some time, I thought I would treat them this christmas to a few faux pets.

I am planning to shop for some deals on monday too! So to answer the question I am both a black friday shopper and a cyber monday gal!

I really want to win that floor cleaner, that would make for a very merry christmas!
I am participating in Infarrantly Creative and Tatertots and Jello’s Blog Hop for a chance to win a Mint Cleaner. It is the revolutionary machine that cleans your hard floor surfaces for you.

Upcycled Denim Quilt

I finished it!!!!
It only took 7 years and one day to do it, but I did it. I told my good friend that if she would cut the squares I would sew them together. Well she cut them and put them together and gave them to me and I put the box in the garage. It was lost in the abyss for a long time. I always thought about that quilt but always found another project to do. Truthfully I didn't have a sewing machine until last year but that is no excuse.
I can't tell you how excited I am to finally be finished. It fells like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I know that my sweet friend will be so happy that she is finally getting her quilt and in all those years she never said any thing to me about finishing it.
Here it is Tif I hope you like it.

Hi friends, this quilt is so easy to make it just takes a little time. It is made out of old jeans and a full sheet. It is perfectly imperfect, the squares don't match up I think it really adds to the charm. If anyone would like me to post the instructions just let me know.

This is my favorite part of the quilt. There are back pocket patches that are great for holding you stuff when you are at the beach or park.
I am posting at a bunch of great parties check them out in the side bar.

Saying Goodbye...

Today we said goodbye to a few of our favorite friends...

(Don't you just love the look on the big ones face, priceless!)

It was hard to decide which of our friends would be leaving us, a few tears were shed, but we managed to chose a few. We are getting ready for for the new toys we will be getting for Christmas. I always have a hard time parting with stuff so I am trying to teach my kiddos to not become emotionally attached to things. On the up side all of the "babies" fit in to their bin now, and when I say bin I mean three foot high basket.
We can't wait to see what Santa is bringing this year!!!

Birthday Girls!

My baby is turning 7!
JoJo is turning 5!
I can't believe how fast the years have flown by and because I know that January will be here before I know it...
I am trying not to procrastinate.
So we are planning a birthday party 4 months in advance!
We have the theme: Build-a-bear

We have the guest list: 12 of the cutest little kiddos around.
Here are the invites...
They are beary cute and best of all they have both pink and purple on them!

I have an idea for cuppy cakes.

See the cute pink bear...

I think it is coming together, the girls have the bear and cat that they want to make all picked out and JoJo keeps asking if tomorrow is her birthday.
I am glad it isn't I still have a wee bit of planning to do.

If you want to feel better about yourself look at this!

Mt. Washmore.
The laundry pile.
The bane of my existence.
What ever you call it, it is what controls us around here.
We don't have a laundry room.
We have a closet.
And our washing machine is broken at the moment.
My mom and dad have been washing and folding all of our laundry.
What a blessing. All of our dirty and clean clothes are stored in the same place.
This is what the girls bedroom looks like on any given day...
Truth be told I have several problems, first we have too many clothes and second I hate putting clothes away because it is so hard to get to the closets. I think it might be because of all the toys, clothes and shoes on the floor in front of them. This is a picture of our laundry closet here it is really scary. This was taken in June and I would like to say it has been cleaned but sadly it remains the same. I am going to take the advice from the families on these sites here and here and try to get it under control! Really I am...

Denim Diaper Box

I just love turning trash into treasure.
Two things we have a lot of over here are diaper boxes and old jeans. It was only time before I joined the two together to make this cute little cubbie.
The steps are so simple...
1. I shortened my diaper box and made dividers with the excess cardboard. Hot glue works great to keep these in place.

2. Cover the inside, I used black spray paint because that's what I had.

3. Grab your old jeans or fabric and measure the outside
cut four pieces- cut two a little bigger to wrap around the sides.
Glue the two bigger sides down, I used Elmer's glue and it has worked out fine,
then I frayed the two remaining sides and glued them down
4. Finally I added the denim ruffle and the fabric flower. Below is a picture of my new, fully stocked, denim diaper box. It is ready to help keep my car a little more organized.

I am joining this awesome new party!!!!

Paper Flower Tutorial

These sweet flowers are pretty easy to make, they are a little repetitive so put on your favorite music or a movie you've seen a few times, gather your supplies and get to work.
1. scissors
2. glue gun
3. floral tape
4. wrapped floral wire
5. paper for flowers and leaves
6. petal and leaf templates ( these came from a kit but it would be very easy to make your own, I can't remember where the kit came from sorry)

1. Create the ovary. Take a square of paper 2"x 2" and crumple it into a ball.
2. Hot glue it to the floral wire.
3. Next take another 2"x 2" piece of paper and wrap it around the the ball and hot glue it into place.
4. Take a 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" piece of paper and cut some fringe, just like you used to do when you made paper grass in kindergarten.
5. Wrap the fringe around the ovary and hot glue into place. You have just created the stamen. (You didn't know that you were going to get a science lesson did you?)
I forgot to take a picture while I was adding the petals but all you do is add a little hot glue to the end and apply to the base of the stamen. I used 4 or 5 small patterned petals and 4 or 5 large solid petals. This is the creative part there are so many different scrap book papers out there that the possibilities are endless.
For the leaves take a piece of floral wire and hot glue it to the back and then glue it to the flower stem. Last but not least use the floral tape to wrap the whole stem from the leaf down. Like the picture above. I like to use odd numbers of things so I went with three flowers on my coffee table. I edited my pictures at There are a ton of great features. It is also very easy I mean if I can use it anyone can!
