Sweet Sophie

Happy 1st Birthday Sophie!

You know you've been to a great party when...
Your kiddos cry in the car because they don't want to leave,
you are still thinking about the cookies and cupcakes,
and your kids are so tired they crash hard at 7:00.
Thanks Katie for a great day, love you guys!

40 Bags in 40 Days Week #2

The Back Yard
My oldest getting ready to mow down the jungle.
I hope she comes out alive!

Here are the reasons I let it get so bad...
First, I hate bugs especially things that hop and fly
for example grasshoppers and praying mantises.
Just the thought gives me the chills.
Second, it has been rainy and cold outside.
Third I don't have the right equipment, lawn mowers and such, to keep it up.

So my husband borrowed my dad's mower and plowed down the weeds.
We filled 4 huge trash bags full of clippings.
We also found a few random broken toys out there.

The girls moved all of the old pots to the trash.
(I was helping but I saw a grasshopper and had to stop.)

I cleaned out all of the old paint and stain from the garage.
These will be going to a hazardous waste yard near by. I found it at Earth911.

I took all of these photos on my iphone with the Instagram app. It is a fun app that lets you add cool effects and then you can upload directly to Facebook, Twitter, emails, and a few other social media sites. You can also follow your friends and comment on their photos.
Stay tuned for stuff from the bathrooms next week...

40 Bags in 40 Days Week #1

Week #1
I got off to a great start. I started with what was on the floor of the girls room.
#1-Books that we don't really care for or are to juvenile.
#2-A few old dresses that are two small,
a pillow and a few random happy meal toys.
(Yes, we eat at MC Donald's from time to time, maybe once every other month,
not really for the food but for the toys and play structures)
#3-A pan, my hubby's old work boots and a pair of too small little boy shoes.

#4- A small bag of hats and scarves that I don't wear anymore
#5-Crafts or other items that I have that were going to be something at one time
but it was so long ago that I can't remember what, to the goodwill they go.
#6 & #7-Then I cleaned out my hubbies T-Shirt drawer. Jackpot!
Two full bags, half went to the donation pile and the other half went to the trash.

It feels great getting rid of all this clutter!!!
Next week the back yard jungle,
who knows what danger lurks in the tangle of over grown grass and weeds?
To Be Continued...

Paint and a question?

Well, I did it, I painted the boys room!!!
(This is me patting myself on the back.)
I must say that it turned out great with only one coat!
I choose the color Dill Pickle by Benjamin Moore.
I also want to say that I am not afraid of color,
 it really makes me happy,
like smile on my face every time I think about it happy.
Now I know a color like this is not for everyone,
my hubby included, who may or may not have mentioned split pea soup, when he walked in the room after a long hard day at work.
In person and during the day it is not quite so neon though.
Back to the question...
I was wondering what you guys do about the heating and cooling vents.
Do you paint them the same as the wall or leave them stock?

Here is the room that inspired the color choice.

And here are some fun fabrics that I found to help me get the designer look.

I think I will be ready for the big reveal in a week or so.
I don't think I can stand much more of the house being torn up in any case.
Let me know what you think about the vent if you have a second.
Thanks Friends!

Making New Friends

I decided to follow Lili @ Purple Paisley Pinwheels. I am a horrible photographer. My camera is crappy and when I see great photos a I always try to learn something from them. Lili's photography is great. I love the flower photos with blurry backgrounds. I [heart] bokeh!
Go check out her blog and tell her Becky at Sweet Bee Hollow sent ya.

Purple Paisley Pinwheels

I am a shy introverted kind of girl who has a hard time sharing things about herself.
I have this fear that I will annoy people or something.
Anyway in an effort to meet some new bloggy friends
who are interested in the same types of things that I am
I decided to join Homemaker on a Dimes party.

I can't wait to check out all of the other blogs that link up.

Chalkboard Projects

There are so many great chalkboard projects out there in bloggy land
and I copied Raising Olives homemade chalkboard paint recipe.
I chalkboared my kiddos little table just like Raising Olives did.

homemade IS one word and my styling needs help for sure.

I think this photo is so funny it looks like the table and chairs are stuck on the wall

I also tried to make one for the wall but that one didn't really work,
the paint decided to not want to stick on the glass.
This was one of those "I should have known better" projects.

On a positive note I found the perfect shade of blue/green for my frame,
at one of my favorite blogs The Nester .

Linking up to the chalkboard party inspired by yours truly over at Freckled Laundry.
I heart Freckled Laundry!

My little Chalkboard project was featured over at Petite Hermine.
You can check it out here.

A New Kitchen

I didn't know I wanted a new kitchen until I saw Flea Market Trixie's Kitchen Redo....

The touches of blue and green are divine!
The open shelving keeps everything so open and airy.

The pantries and seating nook are so perfect I can see my kiddos eating their
breakfast there already getting their cereal right from the convenient cupboards.

I love how she mixed the stainless appliances with the black hardware. Terrific!

It is fresh and beautiful, with the just the right amount of old and new.
I know what I will be dreaming about tonight.
